Romelu Lukaku may be heading for another sharp turn in a career built on them. The Belgian striker, who finished two productive seasons in Naples with a Serie A title, is now being linked with a move to Turkey.
Fenerbahce are pushing to complete the deal and have reportedly submitted an official bid to Napoli worth more than €6 million. Personal terms are said to be in place, which puts the transfer close to the final stage.
The fee is modest for a player of Lukaku’s profile, but it matches his current market value and reflects where he is in his career. At 33, he is no longer priced like an elite prime-age striker, even if his scoring record still carries real weight.
Lukaku has spent years being one of football’s most difficult players to price. He has also spent years proving that goals are not his problem.
That combination explains why clubs keep making moves for him. His output is consistent enough to attract buyers, even when the fit is not always perfect.
Lukaku’s career has moved through some of Europe’s biggest clubs, and the fees have been massive. Anderlecht sold him to Chelsea as a teenager for €15 million. Chelsea then sold him to Everton for €35 million, before Manchester United paid €85 million to bring him to Old Trafford. Inter later signed him for €74 million, Chelsea brought him back for €113 million, and Napoli secured him in 2024 for €30 million.
Those moves have pushed his accumulated transfer fees to €370 million. If Fenerbahce finish this deal, that total rises to €376 million.
This is the part of Lukaku’s career that has become familiar: high expectations, strong numbers, and constant debate about whether he fits the club in front of him. Fenerbahce are betting that the answer in their case will be yes.
If the deal closes, they will get a striker with huge experience, a long scoring record, and a reputation that is never simple to judge. Lukaku rarely leaves a clear verdict behind him, but he always leaves a story.
