The Champions League league phase draw is set for Thursday, August 27, at 5:00 p.m. BST in Monaco, and it will sort all 36 clubs into their road to the knockout rounds. The format uses four pots and gives each team a unique eight-match schedule, making the draw more important than a simple seating assignment.
Each club will be assigned eight opponents in the league phase, with two coming from each pot. That means every team gets a different fixture list, and no two clubs will have the same path through the opening stage.
The confirmed pots place the biggest names across the first two tiers, with a mix of heavyweights and qualifiers below them.
| Pot | Notable clubs |
|---|---|
| Pot 1 | Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, Manchester City, Arsenal, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid |
| Pot 2 | Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Sporting, Aston Villa, Porto, Manchester United, Club Brugge, Real Betis, PSV Eindhoven |
| Pot 3 | Feyenoord, Lille, Bodo/Glimt, Napoli, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Shakhtar Donetsk, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce or Lyon winner |
| Pot 4 | Dinamo Zagreb or Viking winner, Slovan Bratislava or Celje winner, Slavia Prague, VfB Stuttgart, LASK, Levski Sofia or AEK Athens winner, Como, Lens, Sabah |
The old four-team groups are gone. In this setup, the draw creates a broader league table, and the fixtures are built by computer after the pots are set. The result is a more varied schedule and fewer predictable matchups before the knockout rounds.
That also raises the stakes for every pot position. A favorable draw can open the door to momentum, while a brutal list of opponents can put even top clubs under early pressure.
Thursday’s draw will shape the first half of the competition for every qualified side, from title favorites to debutants. For fans, it is the first real glimpse of whether their club has been handed a smooth route or a demanding European test.
